Song Travelers focuses on your personal writer’s voice and goals, so there will be something for all levels of writing experience and skill. You do not have to play an instrument to attend, and you do not have to have written a song, just have a strong desire.

Our goal is to create an environment for you to find your inspiration, effectively put your ideas to music, refine your songwriting and co-writing skills, overcome what holds you back from your self-expression and leave with the ability to write better songs. Amazing things happen when we show up for ourselves.

Wyatt Easterling

Wyatt Easterling’s decades of success in the music industry includes a myriad of roles from performer to songwriter, and as an executive of both a major record label and publishing company. This wealth of experience and accompanying success in all these varying facets of the industry, give him a unique and valuable understanding of the music business.

When Atlantic Records opened their Nashville office, Easterling signed on as Chief of A&R and started his track record of success by signing artists  Tracy Lawrence, Michael Johnson, Neal McCoy, and John Michael Montgomery.

Easterling along with Doug Johnson, produced Montgomery's multi-platinum debut album, Life’s A Dance.

After his role at Atlantic Records Wyatt partnered with Miles Copeland (Sting, The Police, IRS Records) and formed the Nashville Division of Bugle Publishing Group and Firstars Management as Director of Operations. Easterling brought Keith Urban to Firstars Management and worked at length with Urban in the studio recording the project that landed Keith his first major recording contract at Warner Bros. Records.

In addition to ushering notable artists into the mainstream, Easterling and Copeland created Bugle Publishing Group’s The Castle, the first of its kind songwriter's retreat held twice yearly at Miles Copeland’s Chateau Marouatte in France. This event saw great success with a long list of esteemed artists and writers such as Keith Urban, Cher, Carole King, Jon Bon Jovi, Peter Frampton, Olivia Newton-John, and

Stuart Copeland, to name a few.

Wyatt then signed alternative roots artist Paul Thorn into the company for management and publishing. Easterling produced Paul's album, Hammer & Nail along with Greg Wells and Billy Maddox for A&M Records, Los Angeles.

After Bugle Publishing, Easterling decided it was time to get back to songwriting and promptly signed with DreamWorks Publishing. Eventually Wyatt opened Terra Nova Music, his own publishing company in Nashville, which had eight writers on staff.

Wyatt’s songwriting success includes “Modern Day Drifter” (Dierks Bentley),

“Life’s So Funny” (Joe Diffie), “This Time I’m Taking My Time” (Neal McCoy) If The Jukebox Took Deardrops (Billy Joe Royal) along with countless others

Wyatt has released his 5th album titled "From Where I Stand" and is currently touring to support this critically acclaimed release. Easterling is also releasing individual singles beginning with Between Us released at the close of 2025. For more info go to: www.wyatteasterling.com

Buddy Mondlock

Buddy Mondlock writes songs. He does it so well that some great songwriters have recorded his songs on their own albums. Guy Clark, Nanci Griffith and Janis Ian, to name just a few. But there’s nothing like hearing the guy who wrote ‘em sing ‘em. He’s not going to pin your ears back with those songs. He’s going to draw you into his world.

It was Guy Clark who first discovered Buddy playing under a tree at the Kerrville Folk Festival in 1986. Guy went back to Nashville, opened the door and yelled, “Pay attention y’all, this kid’s good.” Soon after, Buddy was driving a U-Haul south from his native Chicago. A publishing deal with EMI was waiting. In the years that followed, cuts with the likes of Garth Brooks, Joan Baez and David Wilcox cemented his reputation as

a songwriter. Peter, Paul and Mary recorded his song, “The Kid” and he sang it with them on their 1996 “Great Performances” PBS television special.

But Buddy never considered just laying back and writing songs for others. He’s always been a performer first. The joy he takes in singing and playing and telling stories for folks shines through and his audiences take that with them.

And although never one to rush things, he’s accumulated a string of critically acclaimed CDs including 2002’s “Everything Waits To Be Noticed,” a writing and recording collaboration with Maia Sharp and Art Garfunkel. And his latest album, “Filament,” produced by Brad Jones, explores some new territory for him, both sonically and rhythmically.

In recent years Buddy has been writing songs with military veterans through a program sponsored by an organization called Music Therapy of the Rockies and he includes several of those songs in his shows (and one on his new album). “This has been such a powerful experience and I’m honored to have been trusted with these stories of trauma, and of triumph too,” he says.

Turns out he’s also a fine teacher, hosting songwriting workshops across the US and overseas, sharing the wonder of making something out of nothing and helping others to find their own creative sparks. He’s been on staff at the famed Swannanoa Gathering as well as at the songwriting schools at festivals like Kerrville and Sisters.

“Buddy Mondlock writes beautiful songs and plays the kind of guitar they deserve. He’s a fine person and a fine artist.”  Townes Van Zandt

Harmonica Workshop

For this retreat I'll be providing an introduction to playing the harmonica, with a smattering of history, harmonica types, styles of playing, and other tidbits to help you better understand this versatile and handy instrument.

NOTE: You'll need to bring your own harp in the key of G . You can easily find  one on Amazon. If you'd like more information on what to buy or what to expect, you can reach out to Todd at: toddbreckmusic@gmail.com

Where it began:

At the end of the 8th grade as I cleared out my room to leave my prep-school for the summer break I found a discarded harmonica on my dorm floor.  My mother reached sainthood in my eyes that day as I never stopped playing it on the long drive home. I’ve been playing harps ever since. Over the years my collection has grown to pretty much every key made for harmonicas.

I’ve been attuned to music all my life playing multiple instruments, and while I enjoy playing guitar, bouzouki, and mandolin the harmonica has been my signature instrument that has led to recording not only on my own albums, but on fellow artist recordings as well.

TESTIMONALS

CLEMENTINE VOLKER

"Wyatt took my song Lost Child and stripped it to the core by asking me critical questions. It was within 20 minutes he sculpted my lines and pointed out where the real message was hidden."

WARREN WILLIAMS

"One of the best experiences I’ve had since picking up the guitar was at the Song Travelers Retreat!! Learning to write a better song and making new friends that have the same interest as me has been life-changing. I never thought an old rodeo bronc rider like me would learn to write songs as I have from this retreat. After 20 years of rodeo riding (and I’m still shoeing horses at 71), I now get to sing some of my own songs at gigs on the weekends instead of all covers and having a blast doing it!  Thanks, Song Travelers Retreat for an awesome experience!"

CANDY FERNAUX

As a songwriter, I had never collaborated with other artists until I attended a songwriting retreat where Wyatt was an instructor. I was nervous, didn’t know a soul, and was not very confident in my writing or guitar playing skills. I walked into the retreat and the first thing I found myself doing was making guacamole with Wyatt! Eventually, I asked Wyatt to produce my first album and now I have a number of songs at country radio and a brand new cd just recorded coming out soon. If you ever thought you might like to write a song then don’t miss this opportunity
